US stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the consumer
discretionary, technology and communication services sectors led shares lower. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA fell 0.07% while the S&P 500 index was down 0.36%, and the NASDAQ Composite index slid 1.03%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by 1,845 to 1,441 and 176 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,465 declined and 1,762 advanced, while 192 ended unchanged. During the last trading session, the FSSTI index rose 3.96pt to 3,165.00. Among the top active stocks were Thomson Medical (+14.8%), Sembcorp Marine (+2.5%), Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (+0.7%), Jiutian Chemical (+2.2%) and UMS (+3.6%). The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index was up 0.5% while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index fell 0.1%. The broader market saw 282 gainers and 223 losers with total trading value of S$1.15b.
