US stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the technology,
communication services and consumer discretionary sectors led shares higher. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA rose 0.52% while the S&P 500 index gained 0.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index advanced 1.47%. Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones on the NYSE by 2,115 to 1,188 and 169 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,569 advanced and 1,672 declined, while 193 ended unchanged. During the last trading session, the FSSTI index fell 13.96pt to 3,151.04. Among the top active stocks were Thomson Medical (-3.0%), Genting Singapore (+0.6%), Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (-1.3%), Jiutian Chemical (-1.1%) and MM2 Asia (-4.2%). The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index was down 0.2% while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index fell 0.4%. The broader market saw 238 gainers and 288 losers with total trading value of S$1.07b.
