US stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the consumer discretionary, energy and real estate sectors led shares higher and losses in the utilities, consumer staples and health sectors led shares lower. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA fell 0.09% while the S&P 500 index was up 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.31%. Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones on the NYSE by 2,112 to 1,190 and 171 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,654 advanced and 1,613 declined, while 198 ended unchanged. Yesterday, the FSSTI index ended 8.67pt lower at 3,167.14, taking the ytd performance to +11.4%. Among the top active stocks were SPH (+1.7%), Sunpower (-2.5%), Thai Beverage (+0.7%), Jiutian Chemical (-2.1%) and Thomson Medical (-4.0%). The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index gained 0.3%, while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index rose 0.4%. The broader market saw 247 gainers and 253 losers with total trading value of S$1.18b.
