US stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the energy, utilities and financials sectors led shares lower. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA fell 1.58% while the S&P 500 index was down 1.31%, and the NASDAQ Composite index slid 0.92%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by 2,495 to 837 and 130 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3,011 declined and 1,264 advanced, while 220 ended unchanged. During the last trading session, the FSSTI index rose 5.85pt to 3,144.16. Among the top active stocks were Sembcorp Marine (-0.5%), Thai Beverage (+2.2%), Genting Singapore (+0.6%), Thomson Medical (-1.1%) and Jiutian Chemical (+1.2%). The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index was up 0.04% while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index rose 0.24%. The broader market saw 224 gainers and 255 losers with total trading value of S$1.84b.
