US stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the consumer
discretionary, energy and financials sectors led shares higher and losses in the utilities, materials and consumer staples sectors led shares lower. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA fell 0.21% while the S&P 500 index was down 0.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.13%. Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones on the NYSE by 1,715 to 1,563 and 193 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,525 advanced and 1,775 declined, while 197 ended unchanged.
