US stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the real estate, consumer discretionary and utilities sectors led shares higher and losses in the energy, financials and materials sectors led shares lower. At the close of the NYSE, the DJIA rose 0.61% while the S&P 500 index was up 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index slid 0.17%. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by 2,150 to 1,178 and 147 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3,024 declined and 1,367 advanced, while 179 ended unchanged.
