Sembcorp Marine

Sembcorp Marine (Sembmarine) is in negotiations with the Brazilian Navy for a contract involving the construction of an Antarctic support vessel. The support vessel project, Projeto Navio De Apoio Antartico (NApAnt), is part of the Brazilian Navy’s research vessel project, a company spokesperson said in response to queries from The Business Times on Wednesday (Oct 13). The contract involves two of Sembmarine’s wholly-owned subsidiaries: Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz and Sembcorp Marine Specialised Shipbuilding. Sembmarine’s proposal was identified by the Brazilian Navy as the “best offer” based on four factors: vessel performance, business financial model, construction methodology, as well as life cycle management and integrated logistics support, said the spokesperson. Negotiations have commenced with EMGEPRON for a contract award by June 2022, with construction to commence in 2022 if negotiations are successful. The value of the contract was not disclosed. EMGEPRON, or Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais, is a state-owned company linked to the Ministry of Defence of Brazil through the Command of the Navy.
