Tesla Raises Cost of China-Made Model Y by 5% to USD58,900

(Yicai Global) June 17 — Tesla has once again raised its prices in China, this time hiking the cost of the China-made long-range version of the Model Y, amid continuing supply chain disruptions.

The Model Y Long Range, an electric sport utility vehicle, now costs CNY394,900 (USD58,900), a 5 percent jump from mid-March, Tesla’s Chinese website showed today. Deliveries take from 20 weeks to 24 weeks.

California-based Tesla, which has a factory in Shanghai, has been contending with rising raw material prices and a two-month lockdown of the city that ended on June 1.

The automaker lifted its China prices three times in just one week in March. The China-made Model Y Long Range had a sticker price of CNY347,900 at the start of this year, which rose to CNY357,900 and then to CNY375,900.

It has hiked prices in the United States too. Since March, the Model Y Long Range has increased by USD6,000 to USD65,990. Tesla has raised the cost of other models in the US as well.

Higher prices are not flattening demand. From January to May, Tesla delivered 215,900 vehicles in China, more than half of last year’s total. It sold 936,000 globally in 2021, while wholesale numbers for China stood at 413,000, almost half of the total. The company sold 250,000 in China.
